One of Hilda van Stockum's "Three Bottles" still lifes. © Estate of Hilda van Stockum. Photo shown here by kind permission of the Estate. |
My mother won this medal in 1989 but no one can remember which of her paintings won the award. Three paintings were submitted:
1. Three Islandic Poppies
2. Orchids & Jamine
3. Three Bottles
If you have any information about which it was, and possibly a photo of the painting, the ESB would like to have it.
Thank you John. Maria Bennett
ReplyDeleteI used to work in Bord Failte from 1978-2008) which had access to the ESB canteen in their head office building in Fitzwilliam Street (now demolished and being rebuilt, even more ugly than what was there!) ESB had a nice art collection, but I can't find any listing. But I do remember there was an 'inner' dining room, from memory called the McLaughlin room where you got table service. I have a memory of a Hilda Van Stockum hanging there - from recall it was copper jugs still life.... a work colleague loved it and always tried to sit facing it, so he'd recall better, shall ask next time we meet up - unfortunately this was in the days before everyone took photos of everything!

Letitia,
DeleteThank you for your contribution to the record. A giclée of one of the HvS paintings of Evie Hone will be in a new hotel being prepared in Dublin. I will post information about this when I get it and the Covid-19 pandemic is abated...
